At Samedan the window
shuts at sunset.
This page is written differently from the others. No turns of phrase: if you are here you are probably looking for information for someone you care about, and you need to know what can be done and how quickly. One thing first, before anything else: we do not do rescue. The helicopter that comes for someone on a piste or a face belongs to the public rescue services and is not ours. If this is an emergency in progress, the number is 112.
Three situations, three different answers.
Hospital-to-hospital transfer
From a peripheral facility to a specialist centre, in Italy or abroad, and back. It is the most frequent case: a department that is not there, an operation done elsewhere, a second opinion that has to be reached. It applies to an alpine valley as to anywhere else that is complicated to move from.
- Ground ambulance from hospital to airport, at both ends
- Aircraft equipped with a stretcher and medical equipment
- Doctor and nurse on board, according to the clinical picture
Medical repatriation
For someone who has fallen ill or been injured abroad and needs to come home. It can be arranged from any country, in coordination with the hospital treating them and with the insurer, where there is one.
- Fitness to fly confirmed with the treating physician
- Documentation, overflight permits and customs formalities
- One family member on board, where space and conditions allow
Cases that need more
Some situations are not solved by a stretcher alone, and belong in the hands of people who deal with them every day.
- Neonatal and paediatric transport, with incubator and specialists
- Patients in isolation, with a rigid-shell capsule
- Intensive care in flight, with ventilation and continuous monitoring
Four steps,
and the first one is a message.
You tell us the situation
Where the patient is, in which hospital, and where they need to get to. You do not need the medical terms: the name of the hospital and a contact in the ward are enough.
The doctors speak to each other
The medical operator's doctor contacts whoever has the patient in their care and establishes whether they are fit to travel, with what crew and what equipment. That decision belongs to the treating doctor and to the operator's medical team: it is not a commercial decision, and neither we nor anyone else selling you a flight makes it.
You receive the plan and the cost
In writing: aircraft, medical crew, ambulances at both ends, timings, permits. If an insurer or a health fund is involved, the document already comes in the form they ask for.
Departure
In urgent cases we fly the same day, where the airport allows it. In the Alps this is the constraint that changes everything: Samedan has no runway or approach lighting and permits no night operations — from the Engadin, after sunset, medical air transport does not depart. Annecy closes at 19:00, Chambéry and Grenoble at 21:00. Geneva stops departures at 21:26 and arrivals at midnight. Salzburg operates 06:00 to 23:00 but explicitly exempts ambulance flights from its own hours, and in the French Alps the airport that holds the night is Lyon. On planned transfers the time is chosen for the patient, not for the aircraft.
What we are not, and why it matters
We are not a healthcare provider and we are not an air carrier. We have no doctors on our staff and we take no clinical decisions. On this service, more than on any other, our role is only to connect and coordinate — and we wanted to write that large, rather than small at the bottom.
The medical transport is carried out by specialist operators, with their own medical crews and their own certifications, through the international network of our operating partner. The contract and the clinical responsibility are theirs.
What we add is the part that weighs more than it seems at a moment like this: one person who follows the case from start to finish, who knows how hospitals actually work, and who handles the ambulances at both ends, the permits and the timings while you think about more important things.
Write what you know right now.
We ask for the rest.
Received
If you need us, write.
There is no form for this service. A medical transport request is assessed by talking, not by ticking boxes. Write to info@alpineprivatejet.com with «medical» in the subject line: we reply as soon as we read it and, if it helps, we speak on the phone right away.
