The categories
Six categories.
The difference isn't luxury: it's physics.
How much runway you need, how far you fly without stopping, how many bags actually fit, and whether you can stand up in the cabin. Everything else is furniture.
01Turboprop
6–9 seats · up to 3,000 km · 800 m runway
The most underrated aircraft on the market, and where the runway is short often the only one possible: the alpine altiports, Saanen in winter, Annecy with its 1,598 metres. It gets in where jets cannot, burns far less, and under two hours of flying the time difference is minimal.
Pilatus PC-12 NGX · Beechcraft King Air 350
02Very Light Jet
4–5 seats · up to 2,200 km · 950 m runway
The cheapest way onto a jet. Two people and one bag each, short sectors, a basic lavatory. On Milan–Geneva, Turin–Chambéry or Geneva–Paris it does its job without apologising. With ski bags, it does not.
Citation Mustang · Phenom 100 · HondaJet
03Light Jet
6–8 seats · up to 3,700 km · 1,000 m runway
The category that answers most of the requests we get, in Italy and across Europe. It covers the whole continent without a stop, lands almost anywhere, and with six people on board it gives the best return for what it costs.
Phenom 300E · Citation CJ3+ · PC-24 · Learjet 75
04Midsize and Super Midsize
7–10 seats · up to 6,500 km · 1,200 m runway
You move up for three reasons, never for prestige: the sector runs over two and a half hours, there are more than six passengers with real luggage, or you need an enclosed lavatory and enough privacy to work on board.
Citation XLS+ · Praetor 500 · Challenger 350 · Gulfstream G280
05Heavy
10–14 seats · up to 11,000 km · 1,600 m runway
You can stand up, you can genuinely sleep, and the group can split into two zones without sitting on top of each other. This is the category for medium-haul and for large groups with a lot of luggage.
Falcon 900LX · Challenger 650 · Legacy 650 · Gulfstream G450
06Ultra Long Range
13–19 seats · over 12,000 km · 1,800 m runway
Intercontinental non-stop, with proper beds and a lower cabin altitude so you arrive less tired. One detail almost nobody mentions: the Falcon 7X and 8X stay under 35 tonnes, which makes them among the very few in this category admitted to Cannes Mandelieu.
Falcon 7X and 8X · Global 6000 · Gulfstream G650ER
