The side of the range it serves
From Turin you reach Sestriere and the Via Lattea, Bardonecchia, the Aosta valley and Courmayeur, and Cervinia. These are destinations you can only reach from France through the Fréjus or Mont Blanc tunnels, with times and queues that on holiday return days are not predictable. Anyone heading to this side and landing at Geneva or Lyon pays twice: in kilometres and at the tunnel. The arithmetic changes completely if the group is arriving from the south or the east of Europe.
The connection almost nobody knows about
From Cervinia you cross to Zermatt by cable car, through the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, with luggage transport. Which means a flight to Turin can also serve Zermatt, four hours from Geneva on the Swiss side.
