UTMB 2027: four races start from Courmayeur, and the dates are not out yet
The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc moves more than ten thousand runners and over fifty thousand spectators across three countries, and Courmayeur is its second hub after Chamonix: four of the eight races start there, the TDS, the CCC, the ETC and the YCC. The 2027 dates have not been announced yet — the organisers write only “see you in 2027” — and the week traditionally falls at the end of August: in 2026 it ran from the 24th to the 30th. The real constraint is not the airport: it is that on the Friday morning, for the start of the CCC, the centre of Courmayeur stays closed until 10:15.

The eight races, and which ones start from Courmayeur
The UTMB week is made up of eight races. Four start from Courmayeur: the TDS, 145 kilometres and 9,500 metres of positive ascent; the CCC, 108 kilometres and 6,200 metres, which finishes at Chamonix by way of Champex-Lac; the ETC, fifteen kilometres; and the YCC, the young people’s race. From Chamonix start the UTMB proper, 174 kilometres and 9,700 metres of ascent with a time limit of forty-five and a half hours, and the PTL, three hundred kilometres and twenty-five thousand metres in teams of two or three. From Switzerland start the OCC, from Orsières, and the MCC, from Martigny-Combe. The figures for the UTMB and the CCC vary between the official race sheets and the programmes for each edition: they are numbers that change with that year’s course.

- Per l'autunno 2027 e' allo studio una chiusura totale di quindici settimane, non ancora deliberata: negli anni scorsi e' cominciata a inizio settembre.
- Gli alloggi della valle si esauriscono con mesi di anticipo e molte strutture impongono soggiorni minimi.

On Friday morning the centre is closed
In the schedule published by the municipality of Courmayeur, on the day of the CCC viale Monte Bianco is closed from 06:30 to 10:15 and the pedestrian zone of the old centre from 08:30 to 10:15. On the day of the TDS the closure is at night, from 22:30 to one in the morning; for the ETC and the YCC the centre stays closed from 10:00 to 15:30. This is the piece of information that decides a transfer: an arrival at Courmayeur on the Friday morning has to be planned before 06:30 or after 10:30. The official UTMB website, on its page about getting to Courmayeur, writes in capitals that you should not hire a car: the car parks in the centre are full all week.
Aosta is forty minutes away, but operates by day only
Aosta is about forty kilometres away: it is the nearest airport of all the Alpine resorts we serve. But it operates under visual flight rules only and in daylight only, it has no instrument approach procedures, the service is flight information and not a control tower, and the fire-fighting category is the second. The solid choice remains Turin Caselle, one hundred and fifty kilometres: a 3,300-metre runway, category three ILS since January 2026, a tower open twenty-four hours, customs. Geneva is one hundred and fifteen kilometres away when the Mont Blanc Tunnel is open; without the tunnel you go over the Great St Bernard and it becomes three hours and more. At the end of August the tunnel has no scheduled closures: in 2026 the night closures resume on 14 September.
How we work
Until the 2027 dates come out, we do not write them. We say what is known: the last week of August, and in 2026 it ran from the 24th to the 30th. Anyone who wants to book in advance can do so on the week, not on the day. On transfers we work from the closing times of the centre, not from the kilometres, and we check the state of the tunnel before confirming: for autumn 2027 a new full closure of fifteen weeks is under consideration, not yet approved, and in past years it has begun in September — that is, a few days after the UTMB.

Which races start from Courmayeur?

Can you get to Courmayeur on the day of the CCC?
Yes, but not between 06:30 and 10:15: in that window viale Monte Bianco is closed and the old centre is pedestrian from 08:30. A transfer has to be planned before or after. The times come from the schedule published by the municipality.
Which airport is right for Courmayeur?
