On the runway there is no limit at all
3,300 metres by 45, at seven feet of elevation, with CAT III ILS and category 9 fire cover: any business jet gets in, ACJs and BBJs included, and the long range aircraft that arrive from the United States or the Gulf. The airport is open twenty-four hours. The general aviation terminal is open from six to twenty-two local, with extension on request.
The real constraint: five stands
There are five general aviation positions, with a maximum stay of seventy-two hours. During the Biennale, the Film Festival and Carnival there are fewer still. That is the figure that really decides, and hardly anyone writes it down. A client arriving for a week with the aircraft at his disposal, in Venice, in high season, often cannot keep it there: the aircraft leaves and comes back, and that double movement belongs in the quote from the start, not discovered afterwards.
Slots, permits and customs
Venice is a level three coordinated airport: you need a slot. Prior permission is compulsory and is filed with one of the handling companies; on the notice required the sources give three different figures, and we apply the most cautious of them. It is not a transit airport: for flights from outside Schengen, passengers and crew go through police and customs, with a general declaration required. The checks are done inside the general aviation terminal and take five or ten minutes.
The resorts it serves
Cortina d'Ampezzo in two hours or two and a half, on a road that crosses no pass: it is the best connection for Cortina. For Alta Badia it is perfectly good in summer. In winter the short road goes over the Falzarego and the Valparola, which close without warning: in that season we recommend Bolzano, even though Venice is easier to reach by air. It matters to us that the client knows exactly what service he is buying.
