The Fiames heliport
At the northern entrance to the basin sits the Fiames heliport, which the tourist board lists as a base for flights over the Dolomites. It is the only aviation infrastructure in the area. Hours, capacity and actual availability for passenger transfer are not published, and that is a limit we state openly: when we quote the helicopter last leg into Cortina, we confirm it with the operator for your specific date before giving you a price.
From the south or from the north
From the south the airports are Venice, Treviso and Verona, with Venice as the reference at 162 kilometres. From the north you come through Innsbruck, the Brenner and the Val Pusteria: the natural route for arrivals from Germany or Austria, but Innsbruck requires the crew to have trained on site in visual conditions or in a simulator to operate below 3,000 feet of ceiling or 5 kilometres of visibility. That is not a detail in January.
January 2027: the women's World Cup
From 15 to 17 January 2027 Cortina hosts the women's World Cup on the Olympia delle Tofane, with two downhills and a super-G. Those are the days the basin works at maximum and when the two access roads carry all the traffic. If that is your trip, the arrival has to be planned by the hour, not just by the date.
