3Tre, 23 December 2026: slalom under floodlights, and the helicopter lands in the village
The seventy-third 3Tre is run on Wednesday 23 December 2026 on the Canalone Miramonti, at Madonna di Campiglio: first run at 17:45, second at 20:45, under two hundred and ninety new floodlights. It is the only race in the Dolomites where the last leg by helicopter genuinely works after dark as well: the village helipad, at 1,505 metres, is authorised for public passenger transport and cleared for night operations. Bolzano is the nearest airport, Verona and Bergamo the ones open twenty-four hours.

The programme, and why the timing matters
On Tuesday 22 December 2026, at 18:30, there is the Public Draw in Piazza Sissi: the bib draw, which in practice makes the event a two-day one. The men’s special slalom is run on Wednesday 23: first run at 17:45, second at 20:45. It is a race that finishes after nine in the evening. If the return is planned for the same day, the airport has to be open at night: Bolzano closes at 22:00, and Brescia and Bolzano cannot take a departure after the second run. Verona is open twenty-four hours with twenty-four-hour customs; Bergamo is open, but on night departures the operator has cut back a great deal.

- L'elisuperficie di Campiglio e' autorizzata al trasporto pubblico e abilitata al volo notturno fino al 17 luglio 2029, ma la scheda ENAC non pubblica orari: vanno concordati con il gestore.
- Nessun passo d'alta quota a rischio chiusura sull'itinerario principale. L'ultimo tratto Pinzolo-Campiglio e' una quindicina di chilometri di tornanti.
- In provincia di Trento pneumatici invernali o catene a bordo sono obbligatori dal 15 novembre al 15 aprile.

The helipad that changes the arithmetic
The ENAC register says that the Madonna di Campiglio helipad is at 1,505 metres, is a circular concrete area twenty-six metres across, has fire-fighting equipment, is authorised for public passenger transport and is cleared for night operations. The authorisations run until 17 July 2029. It is the only one in the Dolomites we can put into a quote with this much confidence: Alta Badia and Cortina have helipads either at altitude or with no public data. The times and any restrictions on race days still have to be agreed with the operator, and the ENAC record does not give them.
Roads, parking and shuttles
The organiser opens free car parks outside the village from 15:00 on 23 December, linked to the centre by free shuttles from 15:00 to 23:30. The stadium gates open at 16:00, and it is worth turning up forty-five minutes before each run for the checks. On the road, Campiglio’s advantage is that there is no high pass at risk of closing: you climb from Trento through the Val Rendena, or from the north through the Val di Sole. The last stretch, from Pinzolo to Campiglio, is about fifteen kilometres of hairpins: in winter that is what stretches the journey time.
How we work
For a race that finishes at half past nine in the evening we choose the airport on its opening hours, not on the distance. If the return flight is the same evening, Verona is the prudent choice. If the last leg is by helicopter, we agree the time and the availability with the helipad operator beforehand: the night authorisation is there, but it is not a scheduled public service. What we do not do is promise a helicopter without having confirmed it.

Are there road closures or reserved parking?
The organiser opens free car parks outside the village from 15:00, with free shuttles until 23:30, and the stadium gates at 16:00. The council’s traffic orders have not been published yet: they usually come out close to the race.
How steep is the Canalone Miramonti?
For the race course the organiser gives 470 metres of length, 180 metres of vertical drop, a maximum gradient of 60% and an average of 38%, with the start at 1,730 metres. The tourist board publishes different figures for the piste open to the public: 610 metres and an average gradient of 27%.
Is there racing elsewhere in those days?
Yes, and it is the busiest week of the year: Val Gardena on 18 and 19 December, Alta Badia on the 20th and the 21st, the 3Tre on the 23rd, then Bormio on the 28th and the 29th. The airports of northern Italy are all working at once.
