It is the airport that answers when the others have closed.

Why we choose it
Because it is open twenty-four hours and has customs twenty-four hours. It sounds like a bureaucratic detail, and it is instead the difference between a flight that can be flown and one that cannot. Bolzano closes at twenty-two hundred. Treviso closes at twenty-two hundred. Venice is open, but the general aviation stands number five. Verona always holds: an arrival at two in the morning from Dubai, a departure at six, a flight that slips three hours for weather.
What gets in
3,068 metres by 45, at 240 feet of elevation, with CAT IIIB ILS and category 8 fire cover, raisable to category 10 on request. Any business jet gets in, long range aircraft and ACJs included. Forty-four stands, a civil and military airport together. JET A-1 only: no AVGAS, so for a piston aircraft you have to look elsewhere.
The resorts it serves
Madonna di Campiglio in two hours forty or three hours, on a route that crosses no pass at risk of closure: after Bolzano it is Campiglio's second airport, and it becomes the first when the timing rules Bolzano out. Alta Badia in three hours or three and a half. For Cortina, though, it is far: nearly four hours, and you land at Venice or Treviso instead.
Things to know
Touch-and-go is not allowed. The airport is coordinated through Assoclearance. A three-hour prior permission for general aviation appears in a 2018 publication and not in the current summary: we check it with the handler before every flight rather than taking it for granted. It matters to us that the client knows exactly what service he is buying: when we say an airport is open twenty-four hours, we have checked it.
Questions we get
Is Verona open at night?
Yes, twenty-four hours a day, and customs are on duty twenty-four hours as well. It is the only one of the six north-eastern airports we can say that about.
What aircraft gets in?
Any business jet, long range aircraft and ACJs included: 3,068 metres of runway and a CAT IIIB ILS.
How far is Verona from Madonna di Campiglio?
About a hundred and fifty kilometres, two hours forty or three hours, with no passes at risk of closure on the route.
Does it work for Cortina?
It is far: nearly four hours. For Cortina you land at Venice or Treviso.
Is there AVGAS?
No, JET A-1 only.
Is prior permission required?
A 2018 publication gives three hours for general aviation, the current summary does not carry it: we check it with the handler before the flight.
