Zermatt: 4 hours from Geneva. The heliport is inside the village
Zermatt is closed to traffic: no private car reaches the village, everything stops at Täsch. And the journey time from Geneva, according to the local tourist board, is four hours. Four. Anyone selling you Geneva as the gateway to Zermatt is not counting the last part. The only way into the village without changing transport is the LSEZ heliport, which sits inside it.

A car-free village changes the arithmetic
Private cars do not enter Zermatt. The boundary is Täsch, five kilometres down the valley, where the Matterhorn Terminal offers 2,100 covered spaces plus more than a thousand run by private operators. From there you take the shuttle train: every twenty minutes, twelve minutes to Bahnhofplatz. Which means the last leg of a journey to Zermatt is never a car to the hotel door. Either it is a change of transport, or it is the helicopter. People who do not know this find out at eleven at night, with their luggage, on a platform.

Four hours from Geneva, three and a half from Zurich
These are not our numbers: they are Zermatt Tourismus's. From Geneva and from Basel it is four hours. From Zurich three and a half. That is why the choice of airport weighs more here than anywhere else: four hours of transfer cancels the advantage of a jet. Sion is far closer but requires Type A or B aerodrome qualification from the crew, and not every operator has it. Milan works well for arrivals from the south, and is an hour away by helicopter. The sum we do for you is always the same: departure time, landing time, arrival-at-the-door time. All three, not just the first.
The LSEZ heliport is the only direct way in
Zermatt's heliport sits on Spissstrasse, inside the village, at 1,616 metres, with an asphalt landing area and aviation services on site. It runs 07:00 to 23:00, seven days a week, weather permitting. From here it is about sixty minutes to Geneva and the same to Milan Malpensa. The limit is five passengers per rotation, and with four pairs of skis the volume runs out before the seats. Take the weather condition seriously: at 1,616 metres, at the head of a closed valley, this is not an urban heliport.
January 2027: the week to avoid, or to book in October
From 18 to 22 January 2027 the World Economic Forum is held in Davos and Zurich becomes the most congested airport in the Alps. Anyone going to Zermatt that week has no interest in the Forum but takes the consequences: aircraft committed, crews committed, parking impossible at Zurich. If your dates coincide, it is worth working through Geneva or Milan, and booking a long way ahead.
