Crans-Montana: two and a half hours from Geneva, or Sion in the same valley
Crans-Montana sits on a terrace above the Rhône valley, two and a half hours from Geneva and three from Zurich. Below, in the same valley, is Sion: the only alpine airport with no parking limits and a hangar. And there is a heliport at Chermignon-d'en-Haut, a few minutes by car from the resort. The combination exists, but it needs a qualified crew.

Sion is right below. If the crew can use it
Crans-Montana sits on the sunny side of the Rhône valley, and Sion is in the same valley. On paper it is the perfect pair: an airport with 2,000 metres of runway, a hangar, and above all no parking limit, the only one in the alpine arc to offer that. The filter is the qualification: to land at Sion the crew must hold Type A or Type B aerodrome approval from the Swiss authority. Type A is daytime only, needs at least 8 kilometres of visibility and a 6,500-foot ceiling and does not descend below 8,000 feet of DA/MDA. Type B covers the night. If the proposed operator does not hold it, you end up at Geneva: two and a half hours.
What constrains the flight Operating notes written in Italian

Two and a half hours, three hours
The Crans-Montana tourist office is explicit: the resort is about two and a half hours from Geneva airport and three from Zurich. That is not nothing. Add that from mid-December to late April Geneva imposes PPR both ways with slots at 21 days, and that in World Economic Forum week, 18 to 22 January 2027, Zurich becomes the worst airport in Europe for parking. The result is that on Crans-Montana the game is played at Sion, and the crew qualification is the first requirement to verify.
The heliport and the funicular
The tourist office lists a heliport at Chermignon-d'en-Haut, a few minutes by car from the resort. Hours and capacity are not published and must be verified for your date: when we quote the last leg by helicopter we confirm it beforehand, not afterwards. The ground alternative is the funicular from Sierre, renewed in December 2022, which climbs to the plateau. It is the simplest and most predictable way to cover the final rise when the weather does not allow flying.
How we work
Alpine Private Jet works with Air-Dynamic, a Swiss company that arranges charter flights and operates helicopter and air ambulance directly. On Crans-Montana we always start from Sion, verify the crew qualification and the weather with its alternate, and tell you up front what plan B at Geneva costs. The intermediation fee is written into the quote. Quote in 1 minute.
Questions we get
Which is the nearest airport to Crans-Montana?
Sion, in the same Rhône valley. It has 2,000 metres of runway, a hangar and no parking limit, but requires Type A or B aerodrome qualification from the crew.
How long from Geneva?
About two and a half hours, according to Crans-Montana Tourisme. From Zurich about three hours.
Is there a heliport?
Yes, at Chermignon-d'en-Haut, described by the tourist office as a few minutes by car from the resort. Hours and capacity are not published and must be confirmed for your date.
What if the Föhn closes Sion?
The usual alternate is Geneva, and from there it is two and a half hours by road. It has to be calculated in advance, not discovered in flight.
How do you get up from the valley?
By the funicular from Sierre, renewed in December 2022, or by road. It is the reliable option when the weather does not allow flying.
Can I leave the aircraft all week?
At Sion yes, because it applies no parking limits and has a hangar. At Geneva hangar availability in winter is limited.
