Chambéry LFLB: 5 arrivals an hour, 30 stands, zero hangars

Chambéry is the closest airport to the Three Valleys and, in proportion, the most business-aviation airport in Europe: seven movements in ten are business flights. It is also the easiest to fill. On winter weekends it takes a maximum of five arrivals an hour, it has around thirty stands, and it does not have a single hangar. Arrive without a slot and you do not arrive.

What constrains the flight Operating notes written in Italian
I nuovi utenti devono registrarsi su MyHandling.

Seven movements in ten are business aviation

Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc is one of the European airports with the highest concentration of business aviation: around 70% of its movements. It is not a scheduled airport with a corner for private jets: it is a private-jet airport with a few scheduled flights. The runway is 18/36, 2,020 metres by 45, at 779 feet of elevation, with ILS in one direction only. The business terminal is open every day from 07:30 to 21:00 in the winter period, the tower from 07:00 to 21:00.

Five arrivals an hour: what actually happens

On winter weekends arrivals at Chambéry are facilitated and the ceiling is five an hour. Five. On a January Saturday, with half of Europe aiming at the Three Valleys, those bands are gone quickly. Slots are requested through MyHandling and administered via COHOR. There is one rule worth knowing that almost nobody explains: T-10. Unused slots at airports in the same terminal control area are released ten days before the date and reassigned to whoever is on the waiting list. That means a request refused in November can become available ten days before departure. Those who stay on the list often get through. Those who give up at the first no do not.

Thirty stands and no hangar

Chambéry has around thirty aircraft stands and no hangar. The first hour of parking is free, after which you pay by maximum take-off mass. Overnight parking on Friday, Saturday and Sunday has limited capacity and is assessed case by case. The absence of a hangar is not a cosmetic detail: it means that after a night of snow the aircraft must be de-iced before departure, and that belongs in the morning's plan. For long stays it is often better to fly the aircraft out empty to an airport that accepts long parking, and Sion is the only one in the area with no limits.

The weather and the crew's training

Chambéry requires specific crew training when the ceiling drops below 3,500 feet or visibility below 5,000 metres, especially after dark. In Savoy in December that is not a rare condition. It is the piece of information that separates a credible quote from an optimistic one: if the proposed operator lacks that training, under low cloud the flight ends at Grenoble or Lyon. VINCI Airports, which runs the airport, explicitly provides for diversion to Grenoble, Lyon Bron or Lyon Saint-Exupéry with no penalty.

How we work

Alpine Private Jet works with Air-Dynamic, a Swiss company that arranges charter flights and operates helicopter and air ambulance directly. At Chambéry that means three things: we request the slot before we block the aircraft, we stay on the waiting list through T-10, and we keep a plan B on Grenoble or Lyon with the cost already calculated. The intermediation fee is written into the quote. Quote in 1 minute.

Questions we get

How many aircraft can land at Chambéry in an hour?

On winter weekends the maximum is five arrivals an hour. It is the airport's main constraint and the reason slots must be requested well ahead.

What is the T-10 rule?

Ten days before the date, unused slots at airports in the same terminal control area are released and reassigned to whoever is on the waiting list. A refused request can therefore become available at the last minute: it pays to stay on the list.

Is there a hangar at Chambéry?

No. The airport has no hangar and around thirty open-air stands. The first hour of parking is free, after which you pay by maximum take-off mass.

Is PPR required?

Yes, for all commercial and private flights. It is granted subject to slot and parking availability, and new users must register on the MyHandling system.

What happens if Chambéry is full?

The operator provides for diversion to Grenoble, Lyon Bron or Lyon Saint-Exupéry with no penalty. Grenoble adds about half an hour of driving to the Three Valleys, Lyon an hour.

What are the opening hours?

In the winter period, 1 December to 30 April, the business terminal is open every day from 07:30 to 21:00 local and the tower from 07:00 to 21:00.

Tell us the date. We tell you where you land.

Give us the day and how many of you are travelling: we come back with the airport that holds up on that date, the aircraft that fits your luggage and what the last leg costs.
