Méribel: the altiport is 406 metres. The jet stays at Chambéry

Méribel's altiport has 406 metres of runway at 1,717 metres of altitude, is uncontrolled and works on self-information. It is the shortest of the three Three Valleys altiports. No jet lands there, and neither does most propeller traffic. From Chambéry it is twenty minutes by helicopter: the fastest last leg in Savoy.

Why the jet does not land here

406 metres: the shortest of the Three Valleys

There are three altiports in this valley system and none of them takes jets, but they are not the same. Courchevel has 537 metres of runway, Megève 548, Méribel 406. Méribel is the shortest, sits at 1,717 metres, has a paved 15/33 runway and is not a controlled aerodrome: it works on self-information, with no tower. Anyone searching for a private flight to Méribel finds pages that mention the altiport without saying any of this. The operational fact is simple: the jet stops down in the valley, and the last leg is helicopter or road.

What constrains the flight Operating notes written in Italian

Twenty minutes from Chambéry, and five suitcases

Chambéry to the Méribel altiport is twenty minutes by helicopter, thirty from Geneva, twenty-five from Annecy, thirty-five from Lyon, ten from Courchevel. Flights operate 07:00 to 23:00, seven days a week, on Bell 407-type machines. The limit that counts is baggage: five passengers, five suitcases plus two soft bags per rotation. With skis, boots and hard cases you reach that number quickly, and the second rotation has to be planned in advance, not improvised on arrival.

The valley is shared, and so is the demand

Méribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens make up the Three Valleys and are served by the same airports. In peak weeks they compete for the same slots at Chambéry, where the ceiling is five arrivals an hour on winter weekends, and for the same thirty stands. On 22 December 2026 Courchevel hosts the women's World Cup night slalom: that day the valley is full by road too. The right way to work is to lock the slot and the stand before choosing the aircraft, and to keep a plan ready on Grenoble or Lyon.

How we work

Alpine Private Jet works with Air-Dynamic, a Swiss company that arranges charter flights and operates helicopter and air ambulance directly. We tell you which airport you actually land at, how many minutes are left, how much luggage fits in the helicopter and how many rotations you need. The intermediation fee is written into the quote. Quote in 1 minute.

Questions we get

Can a jet land at Méribel?

No. The LFKX altiport has 406 metres of runway at 1,717 metres of altitude and is uncontrolled. Only helicopters and very light aircraft with qualified crews operate there.

Which is the nearest airport?

Chambéry, twenty minutes by helicopter. Then Annecy at twenty-five minutes and Geneva at thirty.

How much luggage fits in the helicopter?

Five suitcases plus two soft bags, with five passengers. With ski equipment the limit comes from volume, not from the seats.

Are Méribel and Courchevel the same logistically?

Almost. They share a valley and use the same airports. Courchevel to Méribel is ten minutes by helicopter. In peak weeks they compete for the same slots and stands.

Does the altiport have a control tower?

No. It is an uncontrolled aerodrome operating on self-information.

How late does the helicopter fly?

From 07:00 to 23:00, seven days a week, weather permitting.

Tell us the date. We tell you where you land.

Give us the day and how many of you are travelling: we come back with the airport that holds up on that date, the aircraft that fits your luggage and what the last leg costs.
