Chamonix: in France the helicopter cannot drop you wherever you like
There is a French law that explains half of alpine logistics and that no intermediary quotes: article L363-1 of the environmental code bans the disembarking and boarding of passengers by motorised aircraft in mountain zones for leisure purposes, except on an aerodrome or a site authorised by the administrative authority. At Chamonix this matters more than anywhere else, because the valley has neither an altiport nor a commercial heliport.
The law nobody quotes
In France, article L363-1 of the environmental code bans in mountain zones the disembarking and boarding of passengers from a motorised aircraft for leisure purposes. The only exceptions are aerodromes, as defined by article L6300-1 of the transport code, and sites expressly authorised by the administrative authority. Landing for leisure purposes without any passenger movement is also prohibited. This is why the altiports of Courchevel, Méribel and Megève exist, and why the Val d'Isère heliport exists, and why nobody can legally drop you at your chalet door in France. Switzerland works differently. When somebody promises you a door-to-door helicopter arrival in France, they are not describing a service: they are describing an offence.
What constrains the flight Operating notes written in Italian

Chamonix has no altiport
There is no altiport in the Chamonix valley and no heliport open to passenger transport. The practical consequence is simple: for Chamonix the last leg is always by road. The nearest authorised site for a helicopter arrival is the Megève altiport, which in winter has a groomed rather than cleared runway. That puts Chamonix in a different category from Courchevel, Val d'Isère and Méribel: the choice of airport weighs more, because there is no second hop to shorten the trip.
Four airports, four different logics
Geneva is the valley's natural airport, but from mid-December it imposes PPR and 21-day slots. Annecy is close but has 1,598 metres of runway and closes at 19:00 in winter: not every aircraft fits and no evening return is possible. Sion sits on the other side of the massif, via Martigny, and applies no parking limits but requires Type A or B aerodrome qualification from the crew: from Verbier, on the same side, to Chamonix is one hour twenty by road. Turin has 3,300 metres of runway and no restrictions, but you cross the Mont Blanc tunnel. The arithmetic is not trivial, and it changes with the date and the aircraft.
How we work
Alpine Private Jet works with Air-Dynamic, a Swiss company that arranges charter flights and operates helicopter and air ambulance directly. On Chamonix the honest thing to say is that there is no aerial shortcut on the last leg, so the choice of airport is everything. We show you the four scenarios with the driving time and the price, and you decide. We do not book restaurants or experiences. The intermediation fee is written into the quote. Quote in 1 minute.
Questions we get
Can I arrive at Chamonix by helicopter?
Not directly into the town. The valley has no altiport and no heliport open to passenger transport, and in France article L363-1 of the environmental code bans disembarking passengers in mountain zones for leisure outside aerodromes and authorised sites.
Why can't a helicopter drop me at my chalet in France?
Because of article L363-1 of the environmental code. The only exceptions are aerodromes and sites authorised by the administrative authority: in practice the altiports of Courchevel, Méribel and Megève and the Val d'Isère heliport.
Which is the best airport for Chamonix?
Geneva is the reference. Annecy is close but limited to a 1,598-metre runway and closes at 19:00. Sion and Turin are valid alternatives depending on the aircraft and where you are coming from.
How long is Geneva to Chamonix?
We do not publish the number because we found no official source stating it. We calculate it for your date when we prepare the quote, together with expected traffic.
And from Italy?
From Turin Caselle, with 3,300 metres of runway and no crew qualification required, you cross the Mont Blanc tunnel. On holiday return days the tunnel is the real bottleneck.
